We are looking to upgrade our SBS network to a SBS network with a new server purchase, currently we have 2 -Server std member servers that run TS for users to connect to. If that's the case it doesn't make sense for us to upgrade our domain as the member servers are not due to be replaced until Nov spring and by then who knows if server 08 will still be the current server OS, plus it is an added cost we cannot bear at the moment.
Thanks for any input. Normally, you run a terminal server license service on the domain controller, that way both TS's can share the licenses. Since you're running your license services on the TS's themselves, I don't see how they would be affected by the domain upgrade. I think you're fine.
No, you don't need to upgrade the TS. I can't vouch that you might have to monkey around a bit to get the license back in I'm sure you're familiar with the pain of TS licenses to the new server but it should be doable. Once that is there, there's a new tool you can use to enter Terminal Server CAL keys to allow access. I think there's an initial grace period before you have to supply keys, if it's the same as Windows That's one reason why people buy the Premium edition, since it comes with an additional Windows Server license.
Hi Shackdaddy Ive just posted a question on another one of your threads about the version of Server required to publish an application as well as what CAL's are required for each user to connect..
From reading the above am i right in syaing that Server Standard would be best for us to set up a Terminal Server? Many thanks Tim. I think Server Standard would be best, unless you want to set up Server Foundation, which will only allow 15 client connections.
